Arts
At Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT), we recognise the value and importance of creativity and collaboration. We believe that they are a fundamental part of a well-rounded education which enhances the life chances of all, whatever the field.
In order to develop the leaders of the future, our students, from all phases, frequently engage in collaborative workshops and events to develop essential life skills, such as, creative problem solving, innovation, negotiation, teamwork and leadership.
A number of VIAT primary schools teamed up with international space artist, Cat Machin, for a special virtual Space Art workshop from Australia, and all nine VIAT schools, both secondary and primary, have worked with Su Blackwell, renowned paper sculpting artist, to create collaborative book sculptures in response to the theme 'Literature enriches me'.
Award winning writers and poets, including World Slam Poetry champion, Harry Baker, have been brought in to deliver workshops in creative writing and poetry as part of our VIAT Secondary Transition Programme.
Creative teachers and practitioners from within the Trust provide outreach workshops to the other Trust schools in Art and Design, Ceramic Sculpture, Fashion Textiles, Design and Technology and the Performing Arts.
The creative achievements of our students are celebrated Trust-wide with annual exhibitions and awards ceremonies. This year we hosted a Festival of Music, Art and Literature, for students and families, which featured musical performances from all VIAT secondary schools, a Trust-wide art exhibition, as well as literary performances and live readings from students and professional writers.
