Trust Priorities

The Trust has three Educational Priorities for the academic year 2024/25.  These are reviewed annually, by our Executive Team:

Reading, Writing, Oracy

Reading, Writing and Oracy underpin learning across our whole curriculum and, as such, it is of number one importance.  It is seen as critical to the development of our work across all our schools.

There is a focus in our primary schools to further improve the teaching and progress in Phonics, using Read, Write, Inc. and to focus on developing skills in speed writing in Years 5 and 6.

In our secondary schools, we are aiming to further improve reading ages and fluency, particularly in those students with below chronological reading age. We also want to develop reading in national curriculum subjects and improve independent writing and stamina in writing.

Our focus on these areas will enable students/pupils to access the curriculum with continued confidence, as well as build resilience and a love of learning as a result of their ability to read, write and articulate their learning.

Personal Development (Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity to include Racism and Sexism)

VIAT’s approach to learning is holistic.  The development of the ‘whole’ child is critical in our philosophy.  As such, we work hard to ensure that an inclusive ‘opportunities for all’ curriculum is offered across all our schools, with the aim of developing well-rounded, confident individuals, who are aware of the world they live in, with a responsibility to contribute both constructively, responsibly and respectfully.

Across our primary provision, we are looking to add breadth to our curriculum through wider development in music, art, modern foreign languages/internationalism, sport and outdoor learning.

Our secondary provision aims to add breadth to the curriculum through co-curricular opportunities in music, art,  modern foreign languages/internationalism, sport and outdoor learning. It goes beyond the national curriculum and presents a broad offer across both statutory and optional subjects.

Our focus in these areas provides a wealth of opportunity for students/pupils to develop individual talents and interests.

SEND (Specialisms and best practice to be shared across the Trust)

In both our primary and secondary schools we will be further embedding Action Research Projects and evaluating their impact, while ensuring we meet statutory provision.  We consider our approach to be innovative, collaborative and inclusive.
